HOLSTON GASES CELEBRATES 60TH ANNIVERSARY

2018 is the 60th year in business for Holston Gases. The Knoxville based company was founded in 1958 by Pat Baxter and Bob Walsh, and has now grown to 27 locations in six states, and is one of the largest independent suppliers of welding gases, propane gas, and restaurant CO2 gas in America.

Holston was headquartered for 50 years on the Tennessee River on Sevier Avenue, and in 2012 built a new, state of the art, gas fill plant and distribution center on I-275 at Baxter Avenue. The company operates out of both locations, with the bulk propane and cryogenics divisions continuing at the river.

Holston Gases employs over 100 people at its Knoxville locations and nearly 400 companywide. Other locations are in Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

The 60th Anniversary Celebration included dinner for 600 on the Festival Lawn of the World’s Fair Park, followed by a program in the Tennessee Amphitheatre, which featured a DVD of the company’s history put to music. The crowd included current employees, as well as several Holston Alumni who worked for the founders at the beginning of the company.

Bill Baxter, Chairman of the Board said, “We were honored by the tremendous turnout by our employees from all over the Southeastern United States. And we were especially delighted by the attendance of several of our retirees who played such an important role in the early stages of the company’s history. We stand on their shoulders today, and the success we have in the future will be to their credit.”
